There are a number of options when it comes to moving things around but portable crane is favored in most of the industry segments. This is because of the versatility and maneuverability of these machines as well as their ease to handle and a long list of other factors. Considering that these cranes have heavy tonnage, they draw their power from the shore electricity supply.

The next type of cranes is derrick cranes which are actually a hybrid class machine. It combines the functionality of a derrick and a crane. In this way it can not only pick up a load vertically, it can also swing in horizontally from the same point. This eliminates the need to move the entire crane as it can rotate on its own axis, to a certain degree, extend its range and deliver the load to its destination.

Finally there are the overhead bridge cranes. By no means are these cranes portable. They are known for their weight lifting cranes. The tonnage can range from a few hundred tonnes to a a few thousands of tons, depending upon the type of usage the crane is to be involved. Overhead bridge cranes generally operate on a fixed track called its bridge.
